From June 12 to 14, 2026, in Edmundston, Acadie will experience a rare and defining moment. A moment when the community will come together to reflect on its future and help shape the priorities that will guide its development over the next decade.
Often described as the gathering of a generation, the Acadian Estates General are part of a long tradition of major Acadian assemblies that have helped shape our collective history. From the National Acadian Conventions of the 19th century to the more recent estates general of 2004 and 2014, these exercises have allowed Acadie to define its priorities, affirm its identity and strengthen its ability to influence its own future.
AUDACIA Communication has the immense privilege of contributing to this historic initiative by developing the event's strategic thread while also serving as lead facilitator throughout the gathering.
Why Are the Acadian Estates General Important?
The challenges facing Acadie today are complex and deeply interconnected.
Demographic transformation, immigration, evolving linguistic rights, economic development, access to French-language services, community governance, cultural identity, health, education, regional vitality and many other issues will influence Acadie's ability to thrive in the years ahead.
In response to these realities, the estates general provide a unique forum where the entire Acadian civil society, including citizens, organizations, institutions, researchers, youth and community leaders, can gather around a single question:
What kind of Acadie do we want to build by 2036?
Unlike many traditional consultation processes, this initiative is grounded in extensive research conducted by a team of experienced researchers under the leadership of the Société de l’Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick (SANB). Their work focuses on five key themes identified as priorities by Acadians themselves:
Culture, Pride and Identity
Lifelong Learning
Health and Well-Being
Economic Development
Rights and Governance
Ultimately, the purpose of the estates general is not simply to identify challenges or produce observations. The strategic thread of the event is built around a clear objective: transforming reflection into action through the adoption of resolutions that will help guide the work of organizations, institutions and communities for years to come.
A Democratic Exercise on the Scale of Acadie
One of the greatest strengths of the estates general lies in its deeply participatory nature.
Over three days, participants will engage in structured discussions about the future of Acadie. These conversations will not only help identify challenges but will also generate solutions, priorities and collective paths forward.
At a time when public debates are often fragmented and polarized, the estates general offer a rare opportunity for meaningful dialogue where diverse perspectives can meet in the same room, including youth, seniors and members of marginalized communities.
A Strategic Thread Designed to Turn Dialogue into Action
The approach adopted for the 2026 Acadian Estates General is built around a simple principle: creating a collective journey that gradually moves participants toward concrete decisions.
The process begins with historical and strategic context, providing participants with a shared understanding of the key moments that have shaped L'Acadie and La Francophonie and the contemporary challenges that require collective reflection today.
Participants then explore the five priority sectors through thematic workshops focused on targeted questions related to cultural vitality, early childhood development, institutional governance, health, economic development and collective rights.
Those conversations are subsequently brought back into plenary sessions where common priorities, areas of convergence and potential solutions can emerge.
Finally, the process culminates in the adoption of resolutions intended to guide future action across Acadian civil society.
In other words, the strategic thread of the estates general is designed to transform knowledge into reflection, reflection into dialogue and dialogue into collective commitment.
Building the Acadie of Tomorrow
Throughout its history, Acadie has moved forward whenever it has taken the time to come together.
The 2026 Acadian Estates General represent an opportunity to reaffirm our collective ability to imagine the future, make meaningful choices and develop solutions adapted to our reality. In a rapidly changing world, successful communities are those that take the time to think strategically about where they are headed.
The 2026 Acadian Estates General will provide exactly that space for reflection, dialogue and collective action.
The future of Acadie is not built alone.
It is built collectively, now as it has always been.
